Education and Training

Dr. Yellen’s academic background and extensive training have laid the foundation for his success in the field of plastic surgery.  He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biochemistry/biology from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. Driven by his passion for medicine, he went on to attend New York University School of Medicine where he received his medical degree. While studying at the Institute of Reconstructive Surgery, New York City, Dr. Yellen participated in a research project related to improving liposuction techniques. It was this experience that inspired him to devote his professional career to the practice of plastic surgery.

Dr. Yellen received his general surgery training at Lenox Hill Hospital, Park Avenue, New York.  Building upon his strong foundation in general surgery he completed a plastic surgery residency at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City. This was followed by a Hand and Microvascular Fellowship at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery in Louisville, Kentucky, training with some of the forefathers of hand surgery.Dr. Yellen has travelled to Central America, where he performed reconstructive surgery on children with cleft lips and palates. He has co-authored several scientific papers, including an article related to liver transplants in children, published by the Journal of Pediatric Surgery and a book chapter entitled “Electrical Injuries of the Upper Extremity”.

Throughout his career, Dr. Yellen has consistently demonstrated a commitment to staying at the forefront of his field. He actively engages in ongoing education and remains up-to-date with the latest advancements and techniques in plastic surgery.  He takes a personalized approach, understanding that each patient is unique and has specific goals and desires.
